Our Community

Parent and Toddler

The Parent and Toddler group is for mothers in the community with children between the ages of 0 to 3.  The meetings are held on Tuesday mornings at Heston Church Hall from 9:30-11:00AM.

What do we care about?
We strive to meet specific needs of parents, grandparent and caregivers in the Heston area by

1. providing a clean, safe, and comfortable environment
2. being a source of help and friendship
3. providing experiences and equipment that broaden young children's horizons
4. providing encouragement and resources for parents seeking help with parenting issues
5. adapting and assisting participants with special needs.

What does a typical group look like?

When the children, parents, grandparents or caregiver arrive, they are welcomed by our volunteer workers and a room full of toys. We have a playdo and craft table set up in the corners of the room. After 45 minutes of free play and social time, we serve snacks to the children followed by tea and coffee for the parents. Fifteen minutes before the end of the session, the parents and children clear up the room and settle around a big carpet for annnoucements and a final singing time. We have a luncheon and share food at the end of every half term. When the weather is suitable, we go outside for bubbles, balls or playtimes. We have a table of resources that keep our moms informed of upcoming events in the community and church sponsored activities. We also have parenting books that are available from our lending library.

Background
Our Parent and Toddler group has been serving moms and children in the community for over 7 years. For five years the group met at St. Mary's Hall near Norwood Green Park. In November of 2004, the group moved to the current site. Our group is staffed by a dedicated group of volunteers. Over the years our greatest strength was been the ability to create a warm friendly environment for the moms. We do not have a waiting list.
